I like the idea of using groups of the same letter or letters to create a pattern using the white space between letters. Scaling it down could make it more delicate. In the pattern above, try aligning the V’s at the top so that they visually create one line.
The new design is so playful and fun! Maybe try a subtle (light grey/transparent) background pattern that plays on either the texture of the hat or the beard to tie the whole art board together.
